What’s in store for Techies at Expo 2020?

Dubai Expo 2020 has begun. And with over 190 countries represented, there’s something for everyone.

We’re proud that OVERWRITE.ai is a Dubai born start-up. A point we like to make as often as possible. That pride was reinforced with the opening of an event that promises to be a portal through which we can experience humanity’s future.

If you’re a tech geek like us, you’ll be pleased to hear about the incredible technologies that will be showcased at Expo 2020 for the next six months!

Pushing the boundaries

Dubai’s COVID-delayed Expo 2020 has announced itself to the world with an extravagant star-studded opening ceremony last Thursday night.

In true Dubai style, the epic showcase was streamed to a world audience, with organisers reporting to have staged the “largest global gathering since the start of the pandemic”.  Officially opened by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, he promised to the world an “exceptional event to be engraved in mankind’s memory”.

The World Fair spreads across an epic stretch of desert, bigger than 600 football fields, and will offer months of world-class performances.

The theme of Expo 2020 Dubai revolves around a “golden ring of connectivity“ and reinforces just how much our city continues to push the boundaries of innovation, interconnectivity and technology.

We couldn’t call ourselves a true tech-loving news blog if we didn’t report on what technological wonders are on display at Expo 2020.

Robot Radius, October 28th

Robot Radius promises to be a gripping performance. Bringing to life, through pantomime, how new technologies transform “man into robot”. Based on a play written and performed 100 years ago to the month, it’s a must-see, if you’re fascinated by AI and machine learning.

The famous 1920s sci-fi play ‘Rossum’s Universal Robots’ is in fact where the term ‘Robot’ first originated. Czech writer Karel Čapek introduced the word, and the idea of ‘robots’, to society. At the time it was probably seen as a totally radical, futuristic concept.  Clearly his predictions were accurate. Expect an impressive performance to capture Karel Čapek’s original work.

EU-GCC Woman in Tech, October 30th

If you’re passionate about the subject of “Women in Tech” there’s an event dedicated to this. Taking place on on October 30th, the event will showcase the importance of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in empowering women in enterprise.

Robots at your Service

Expo 2020 has also deployed more than 150 Terminus robots to interact with visitors during the six-month event, each of which include advanced 5G communication capabilities, as well as AI-driven object mapping and detection.

And guests can look forward to being treated to some world-class robotic hospitality at the event, as bots deliver food, tell jokes and guide visitors at the world fair.

The Spirit of Dubai

Many have tried, but nobody can question Dubai’s uniquely entrepreneurial, can-do spirit. Whether or not Expo 2020 hits its 25 million visitor target, given the fluidity of global travel restrictions, is anyone’s guess. What matters is that Dubai has delivered on its end of the bargain.

Once again, this glittering city on the edge of the Arabian Peninsula has given people the world over, a destination that defies the odds. If any city in the world can define connectivity and innovation, while inspiring innovators and entrepreneurs, it’s Dubai.  Our Home.
